With **over five million downloads**, people love what we're doing. We've created a fast, beautiful, and useable platform that puts the user experience first. We've built it all on open source tech and we've used and contributed to existing code bases as much as possible before forking or reinventing the wheel. > [Wired](http://www.wired.com/2013/11/elementaryos/) - "elementary OS is different" "...a beautiful and powerful operating system that will run well even on old PCs" > [MacLife](http://www.maclife.com/article/columns/future_os_x_may_be_more_elementary_ios_7) - "a fast, low-maintenance platform that can be installed virtually anywhere" > [MacWorld](http://www.macworld.com/article/2048021/if-i-had-to-leave-the-mac-id-switch-to-elementary-os.html) - "If I had to leave the Mac? I'd switch to elementary OS" > [Lifehacker](http://lifehacker.com/how-to-move-on-after-windows-xp-without-giving-up-your-1556573928) - "Lightweight and fast, not to mention customizable. Completely community-based, and has a real flair for design and appearances." #We Believe in Funding Open Source Development elementary started off as a small group of passionate volunteers. Over the years, we've been able to grow into a tiny company. We strongly believe in making open source development sustainable. We see Bountysource as a way to make sure open source developers are compensated for their hard work and a gateway to creating open source jobs. #But We Need Your Help We're made up of about 30 part-time volunteers and just 2 full-time developers. Hiring more full-time developers would mean a much faster release cycle, more new features, and faster bug fixes. Some of the big features we'd like to work on include: * A slick new OS installer to replace the aging Ubiquity * Privacy Mode support across all default apps * New settings panes for important things like Bluetooth, Printers, Parental controls & more * Support for next gen tech like HiDPI, Wayland, and LibInput * Online Accounts integration for Mail, Contacts, Calendars & more * Better documentation for both users and developers * An app store where 3rd-party developers can submit their apps These are all huge projects that we can take on with consistent funding!
